Who could resist this much cuteness? Some drawings of Rocket make him look so much more photogenic than any other Marvel characters, it’s eery — especially since they are not photos to begin with.
Of course, it has been pretty much established that he is the most handsome Avenger and can teach his team mates a lot about looking cool and cute at the same time — something they could never copy for a lack of fur and raccoon ears, let alone a tail.
Speaking of ringtails, Rocket makes a great figure for a character based on a Terran animal. Most anthropomorphic animal characters we see in fiction tend to be a little ridiculous and played for laughts. They are often just comic reliefs and sidekicks, but James Gunn made Rocket great.
In the MCU, Rocket has a serious voice, deeply sad backstory, humor and tremendous skill that make him as serious as any other character ever was.
This is how you do a character like this the right way. There is more to them than a fluffy tail and cute snout.
For an artist, animal characters have a lot to offer, much more actually than a human. You get to draw all that fur and its colorations, the cute nose, the whiskers, and tail. You also get to play with the position of Rocket’s ears and what that communicates to the viewer.
I particularly like this Rocket Raccon drawing here on the left and the way his cheek fur was done. It’s strangely beautiful despite its very artsy look — or maybe because of that look.
